Warmly inscribed by Ferber to Joseph Linz on front endpaper and dated Dallas, February 1940. Linz's New York address is in pencil above. A wonderful association copy: Linz was a member of two prominent Dallas families; in 1934, he moved to New York, but in 1940 he moved back to Texas to work as the film and drama critic of his father's newspaper, the Dallas Journal. That February, Linz related for a 1999 biography of Ferber, he "was tipped off [Ferber] was in town" and interviewed her at the Baker Hotel: "I had just finished A PECULIAR TREASURE, and, although I was a long-time Ferber fan, it was that book which made me know she was a great, great woman aside from being a fine writer." The two quickly became close friends, Linz went on to correspond regularly with Ferber nearly until her death in 1968 (their letters are archived at the Dallas Public Library), and this book is where the relationship began: It's Linz's personal copy of "A Peculiar Treasure," with the Manhattan address at which he lived when he bought it, inscribed by Ferber with the date and place of their first meeting. A great backstory, for a book that's surprisingly uncommon signed in trade edition (the signed limited edition is more easily found). 398 pages.

Orders usually ship within three business days. I generally pack books in boxes, with padding, and unless they're unusually bulky or heavy -- more than four pounds or so -- I won't ask for additional shipping costs. For domestic media-mail buyers, anyway. Prices for international and even priority shipping can get *insane*.
