Forest Ranch, California. Privately published. 2013. Quarto (10 1/2 x 8). 278 pp. including index of fly patterns. Limited Edition. Book number 61 of 100 copies published. Signed by the author on the title page. It's also inscribed by Hal to me. With a card affixed to the front end sheet with a fly - a "Janssen Brown Olive Marabou Leech" dressed by the author along with a watercolor drawing by Hal showing the same fly. Laid-in is a 6 1/2 x 8 1/2 colored print showing a beautiful California Golden Trout, illustrated by Hal Jenssen and signed by him. It's also numbered to match the book number. Foreword by Russell Chatham. Color illustrations and color photos. Black and white illustrations. A groundbreaking book on how to fly fish still waters - lakes, ponds and reservoirs for trout. Includes chapters on Understanding Stillwater - Ecosystems, Weather and Vegetation - Trout Senses and Behavior - Aquatic Insects - Fly Tying and Fly Hooks - Forage Fish - Equipment -Knots for Stillwater, etc. Hal did much of the research for this book on Lake Almanor in northern California. It is no exaggeration to say he is probably the best fly fisherman to have ever fished the lake. Thirteen years ago, he caught and released a 24lb. brown at Almanor. Laid-in is a typed note written by me describing my meeting with Hal and his account of hooking and landing the enormous Brown. This monograph will make you a better stillwater fisherman or fisherwoman. The book is bound in full brown leather with gilt titles on the spine and front cover. A nice book. Fine.
