This book is about the design of statistical graphics. It is also about how to communicate information through the simutlaneous presentation of words, numbers, and pictures.
Review: A timeless classic in how complex information should be presented graphically. The Strunk & White of visual design. Should occupy a place of honor--within arm's reach--of everyone attempting to understand or depict numerical data graphically. The design of the book is an exemplar of the principles it espouses: elegant typography and layout, and seamless integration of lucid text and perfectly chosen graphical examples. Very Highly Recommended.

Edward Rolf Tufte ( born March 14, 1942) is an American statistician and professor emeritus of political science, statistics, and computer science at Yale University. He is noted for his writings on information design and as a pioneer in the field of data visualization. In 1975, while at Princeton, Tufte was asked to teach a statistics course to a group of journalists who were visiting the school to study economics. He developed a set of readings and lectures on statistical graphics, which he further developed in joint seminars he taught with renowned statistician John Tukey, a pioneer in the field of information design. These course materials became the foundation for his first book on information design, The Visual Display of Quantitative Information. Mary Ellen Mogee is a contemporary abstract painter, working in acrylic and mixed media. A native of Illinois, with degrees in chemistry and political science, she pursued a career in policy analysis in the Washington DC area for more than 30 years. Then I took up painting, fell in love with it, and retired early to follow my new passion. She began her journey as a painter based on a desire to explore color in all its bright and joyful aspects. Perhaps she from visual display inspiration from the aesthetics of graphical displays. This is a classic work on on theory and practice in the design of data graphics. It has 250 illustrations of the best (and some of the worst) statistical graphics, with detailed analysis of how to display data for precise, effective, quick analysis. Design of the high-resolution displays, small multiples. Editing and improving graphics. The data-ink ratio. Time-series, relational graphics, and data maps. Detection of graphical deception: design variation vs. data variation. Sources of deception. Seller Inventory # 77605
