Synopsis: Andy tells his dog Sam to stay behind when he takes his teddy bear around the barnyard to introduce him to all the animals.
From School Library Journal:
PreSchool-K Andy, a preschooler, wants to take his teddy bear, Oliver, to see all the farm animals and hear the noises they make. Sam, Andy's dog, wants to tag along, but Andy firmly lets him know that three is a crowd. Andy and Oliver visit cows, chickens, roosters, and other farm animals (with Sam desperately trying to come along in the background). While visiting the geese, Oliver is kidnapped and seems to be headed for a goose-induced fate-worse-than-death until Sam saves him. Then Andy is glad that Sam came along. The illustrations are in black pen with a three-color wash of red, blue, and yellow on a white background. They are simple, clear, and uncluttered with a contemporary look to them. The text has all the things going for it which preschoolers likeanimals, animal sounds, toys, pets, and a preschool hero with whom they can identify. These elements are nicely put together, but they seem to lack that necessary spark that will really get young listeners going. The end result is a nice additional purchase for libraries with a large preschool population. Kay McPherson, Central Atlanta-Fulton Public Lib .
