About this Item
6 engravings, 108 x 140 mm to platemark, page 165 x 190 mm, outer pages a little browned, stitched, rethreaded . A rare and attractive suite of plates, apparently a re-issue, with new imprint, of Robert Sayer and John Bennett's edition of 1776: plates 2-6 are dated June 6th 1775. The paper is watermarked 1806. Robert Laurie was apprenticed to Robert Sayer, then worked independently for a while, before taking over Sayer's business on the death of the latter in 1794. Each plate is a pair of circular engravings of identical subjects, one in outline, the other fully engraved. The style is picturesque, though the penultimate one is of a brick kiln, indicative of the rapid expansion of the metropolis. Seller Inventory # 67224
