"A new edition. With a life of the author by Basil Montagu, Esq." An early U.S. printing of his works. Large 8vo. 3 vols. I: cxvii, 455 pp. II: viii, 589 pp. III: xv, 584 pp. Publisher's blind-stamped cloth. Lightly soiled. Top and bottom of spine chipped. Volume one has sun bleached lines over front board, due to exposed bookends. All cloth spines and faded. Cloth over the spine of volume three is torn in several places along extremities. Institutional bookplate in each volume. Water stains along the top edge of two of the volumes, though not affecting text. Signature in each volume has been cut out leaving a portion of the free end-paper missing. Early pencilling in some margins and on some blank pages. Some unevenly trimmed pages. Pages cockled lightly. Bookseller Inventory # 13511
