First edition. Four volumes of collected writings, with a biography of the author contributed by Robert Anderson. The first two volumes consist of Moore's View of Society and Manners in France, Switzerland, and Germany: thoughts of a witty, open-minded observer with entr?e to the highest of circles, presented in epistolary form and containing extensive meditations on art, culture, and the nature of women. The third and fourth volumes offer his first-person account of the French Revolution. The author was a Scottish physician attached to the household of the British ambassador in Paris. 8vo (23.4 9.25"cm). 4 vols. (only, of 7). I: [4], lx, x, 359, [1] pp. II: xii, 445, [1] pp. III: [8], 501, [1] pp. IV: xii, 415, [1] pp. NSTC 2M34901. Volumes one through four only (of seven). Publisher's quarter tan and light blue paper?covered boards, spines with printed paper labels; bindings rubbed and discolored, with spines chipped and bands of cloth tape at extremities. Two volumes with hinges (inside) cracked and reinforced with cloth tape.
