About this Item

Crapsey was an Episcopal minister, supporter of the Social Gospel movement, and writer and sermonizer who emphasized the humanity of Christ, which writings led to his trial for heresy. He was found guilty and was expelled from the church in 1906. Strip of an established pulpit he continued his mission and had the support of all in the Social Gospel movement and especially among the Unitarians. His new "church" was The Brotherhood, "an association for spiritual, ethical, intellectual, and social work," with Crapsey as "pastor (for the time)," Edward T. Mosher as "treasurer (for the time)," Mrs. Algernon Crapsey as "Com. on Relief," and Miss Maud Guilford as "visitor." This is the basic, initial handbook of The Brotherhood. No copies located via NUC or WorldCat. 12mo. 16 pp. Bookseller Inventory # 36614
