Book Description Blue Cloth. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. First Edition. Light wear to jacket edges, small vertical tear from rear top edge. This is a moving story of the dangers faced by sailors in convoys during the war, telling of the suffering of the Norwegian seamen. Compiled by the author from the true accounts of survivors, it covers three voyages made by a representative crew in 'Anna', a typical ship. In the Second World War, one of England's earliest and staunchest allies was the Norwegian Merchant Navy. Thousands of her seamen sailed in convoys for and with the British, risking their lives to bring much-needed ammunition and supplies to our ports. And in wartime no one is more exposed to danger than the seaman in a munitions ship. He is under constant attack from U-boats and enemy planes, and is threatened every minute by mines. What is most terrible of all, however, for a ship carrying thousands of tons of petrol, nitroglycerine and bombs, is the risk of collision with other ships in the convoy, to which he must sail so close. Just how dangerous these voyages are for the convoys is borne out by the appalling number of men lost in them during the war. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Seller Inventory # 004643
