Review:
Laura Cannon wants to live a life of adventure. She is tired of seeing the same faces, doing the same thing, being plain Laura. What she wants most of all is to be a singer and travel to New York. She's even picked out an exciting name for herself-- Honeysuckle DeVine. Now, thanks to the inheritance left to her by her aunt, she has a way to make her dream come true. All she needs is a way to get to Wichita, Kansas from Jackson Springs, Texas to collect her money and then she can be on her way to New York. Luckily, she happens to know just the man to help her. But Laura is a little impetuous and she doesn't always think things through. Jesse Travers wants to be left alone. He doesn't like crowds, closed in spaces or well meaning women trying to marry him off. He most definitely doesn't want to like the woman with the brilliant smile and the kind heart who asks him to take her on his cattle drive to Wichita. But for a portion of her inheritance, he says yes. Of course, she neglected to mention one little detail-- they have to get married in order for her to collect her money. Now Jesse has a wife to be responsible for on the cattle drive. Even though she seems to cause trouble every time he turns his back, Jesse's war-hardened heart begins to soften toward the tough, beautiful woman. He finds himself wanting to help her achieve her dream. There's only one problem-- Laura can't carry a tune and she doesn't even know it. As the months go by on the cattle drive, Laura longs to know the man who is her husband in name only. Even while she plans her big debut in Wichita she wonders what it would be like to stay with him. Jesse pulls away from Laura every time she tries to get close, but he protects her and comforts her whenever she needs him. She teaches him about life again when all he wants to do is stay dead inside. A dream of fame brought them together, but love will be the tie that binds them forever.Susan Macias weaves a wonderful tale!
