The deeper they dig, the more twisted the trail to Constance's killer becomes—as the list of suspects grows longer by the minute. Was it her spurned and enraged medievalist lover, or a muckraking author who blamed her for ruining her life? Perhaps money was the motive, and Constance's sister, jealous of her wealth and fame, was responsible. Or possibly someone at Key News was angry enough—or frightened enough—to commit cold-blooded murder. The one sure thing is that Constance Young made a lot of enemies—and now one of them is Eliza's enemy as well. Mary Jane Clark worked at CBS News for nearly three decades. Her twelve KEY News media thrillers were inspired by that experience. Envisioning the Piper Donovan/Wedding Cake mystery series, Mary Jane enrolled in cake-decorating classes and researched unique wedding locations. The daughter of an FBI agent and a mother who customized cakes for the neighborhood kids when she was growing up, Mary Jane has two grown children and splits her time between New Jersey and Florida.

The cutthroat world of network television is fodder for a mystery. When Constance Young, the bitchy anchor of the morning news, is electrocuted in her pool, its hard to tell who did it because ALL the anchors hate each other. A trio of women decides to investigate. Isabel Keating provides the most distinctive voice for Eliza Blake, the evening news anchor and the one likable character. She also provides an amusing voice for cameraman B.J., as well as a voice that captures the killers determination. Keating keeps the pace going as quickly as possible. But even the prologue---the brutal murder of a Great Dane in Youngs pool--is grisly without being gripping, and the storys climax drags.
