From the Back Cover:
"When you want the facts, we hit the tracks!" Great balls of fire! The Kinetic City Super Crew has a hot case on their hands when two feuding farmers' barns burn down! Go along for the ride with Crew members Megan, Curtis, Dreck, and Keisha as they use high-tech super-sleuthing and good, old-fashioned brain power to cool a fiery feud. Now you can catch a ride on the KC Express train any time you want! The Peabody Award-winning kids' radio show is an exciting new book series!
From School Library Journal:
Grade 4-6AWhen barns belonging to two feuding families mysteriously burn to the ground, it's up to the Kinetic City Super Crew to find out what caused the fires before the conflict escalates. The book is set in the near future, and the young people from the Crew use their super-powerful computer and other technological aids to assist them in their sleuthing. Interesting information related to fires is worked into the narrative as virtual-reality experiences or computer-generated research data needed to help solve the case. Weak wordplay runs throughout: the feuding families are the Catfields and the McDogs. Character development is nonexistent and the plot hinges on farmers not knowing that water dripping onto their hay is bad news. The serviceable dialogue runs heavily to exclamation points. All in all, this is average paperback-series fare with some palatable science thrown in. Information on the Kinetic City Super Crew radio show and Web site is appended.AFaith Brautigan, Gail Borden Public Library, Elgin, IL
