Through extensive interviews with employees at all levels, William and Kathleen Lundin document typical "dumb" behavior demonstrated by management and survey the damage those behaviors can have on both the people and the organizations they work for. Using the popular "co-dependence" model, they provide therapeutic/psychological strategies and suggestions for combating the problem, showing both employees and management how to avoid the "dumb/smart" trap in order to become part of a healthier, more functional organization.

From the Back Cover:
Advance Praise for When Smart People Work for Dumb Bosses. The Lundins have collected horror stories from many smart people who work in organizations where they are demeaned - and yet they carry on, working to save the company from itself. The result is an inspirational book. No final answers but this lesson: "The ethics of smart employees need to be emulated by dumb bosses." Milton Moscowitz, co-author of The 100 Best Companies to Work for In America. With a combined "head-on"/"hands-on" approach, this book is bursting with valuable lessons learned, and coping strategies for dealing with dumb bosses. It is a must read for all those interested in recognizing and reducing the stressors in dysfunctional organizations. Harvey A. Robbins, Ph.D., co-author of Why Teams Don't work and TransCompetition. A practical and bold, yet very accurate and appropriate book for today's work environment. A great addition to every business library. - Larry Krema, Director of Human Resources, NEC Techmologies, Inc. The economy is filled with arrogant, foolish, and even malicious employers, yet economists and business writers rarely assess the damage done by such managers. This is an important book that should be widely read. - Gerald Friedman, Ph/D., Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and author of State-Making and Labor Movements. An exceptional idea. This book is required reading for business owners, administrators, managers, and line personnel alike. - Dr. Arthur Freeman, Professor and Chair, Department of Psychology, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. As a CEO, I find this a disturbing and shocking book. I advise other CEOs to read it with great caution because the Lundins have captured with alarming accuracy the conversations of disgruntled workers - conversations that might be going on in each of our organizations. - F. Byron Nahser, President and CEO, The Nahser Agency, and author of Learning to Read the Signs.
