About the Author:
John Hope Franklin is the James B. Duke Professor Emeritus at Duke University. He received his Master's degree and Doctorate from Harvard University. He has taught at Fisk, St. Augustine's College, North Carolina Central University, Howard University. He was Chairman of the Department of History at Brooklyn College and at the University of Chicago, where he remains the John Matthews Manly Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus. He was a Fullbright Professor in Australia. Dr. Franklin has published many works and most recently he was awarded the National Endowment for the Humanities Charles Frankel Award, presented by President Clinton. He holds one-hundred honorary degrees as well as the Congressional Medal of Freedom. He was recently one of seven people chosen by President Clinton for a Presidential advisory board to help foster better race relations in the United States. Alfred Moss received his Masters and Doctorate at the University of Chicago. He is a graduate of the Episcopal Divinity School, he is also an Episcopal priest. He is also the author of several books and numerous articles.
