The concept is terrific: Visit our national parks when they aren't jammed with tourists. Don't expect to do and see all you would in peak season, usually July and August, but do expect to do many things. Brown provides background information, telephone numbers, and rudimentary lodging and camping information on 23 national parks and over 40 monuments, recreation areas, and seashores in 11 Western states. A good place to get started if you are thinking of visiting national parks (even during peak season), but don't look for comprehensive data, and do plan to call and/or write before you go anywhere.
