T.E. Lawrence is a personage who has captured a secure place in our imaginations. There was, however, much more to Lawrence than blowing up trains and unifying Bedouin tribesman. Seven Pillars of Wisdom , his record of the Arab military campaigns against the Turks, is considered a classic by military strategists, and Lawrence himself believed it to be his life's finest achievement. In this volume, literary scholar Meyers takes a new approach to Lawrence by judging Seven Pillars on the merits of its prose rather than its historical significance. This first critical analysis should become the standard against which future studies are judged and the foundation upon which they are built.
