From Library Journal:
The Strong Bones Diet is a guide to modifying typical diets into ones that are rich in calcium without adding extra calories. It discusses calcium absorption rates, requirements for different age groups, and sources. There's even a section on growing calcium-rich vegetables in the garden. The bulk of the book is given to recipe plans and recipes high in calcium, and calorie/calcium charts for more than 1200 commercially prepared foods, some fresh fruits and vegetables, and fast foods. Calcium and Common Sense approaches the calcium question with a thorough explanation of calcium and how to build and keep strong bones. The authors describe calcium and its role in the body, calcium nutrition, and how much our bodies need at various times, and give advice about calcium intake through supplements and natural sources. They also cover illnesses caused by too little calcium and advice about osteoporosis. Their discussion of calcium and fairly simple advice on how to increase intake are well presented. Of the two books, Calcium and Common Sense offers the best approach and is recommended. Susan E. Holmer, Peninsula Lib. System, San Mateo, Cal.
