A jarring, fragmented ride through the dark underbelly of Edinburgh, the festival city. There is not an advocate, a festival performer or a fur coat in sight as, with bitter passion and rancid humour, Welsh lays bare the lives of this ill-starred bunch of addicts, alcoholics and no-hopers.

Review:
"Abhorrently dark and raw to the core, Trainspotting is an insight into one of life’s many ugly personalities ― addiction and the accompanying domino effect of grim inevitabilities... Irvine Welsh’s novel will always be a cult classic." (Tori Chalmers Culture Trip)

"Welsh’s skill as a storyteller is undeniable, bringing both wit and compassion to a grim subject matter. If you liked Danny Boyle’s film adaptation, you’ll love the original." (Maddy Searle i)
From the Publisher:
The seminal novel that changed the face of British fiction

Book Description Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: No Jacket, as Issued. First Edition. A fourth printing of the true first edition, published as a paperback original (PBO). The book was originally published in 1993 in a small print run of 1000, but the novel became surprisingly successful, and eventually a cult classic, and was reprinted once more in 1993, and twice in 1994. All these Secker printings of the novel are hard to come by now in decent condition. ***A very good copy in the original glossy card covers with integral French flaps, which remain uncreased, the front flap priced at £9.99 by the publisher. The covers are creased, mainly to the corners and edges, as is often found with this book - this copy being less creased than is usually found. The spine is intact and flat (without any reading curve) and has just light vertical reading creases. The brown colour is faded to grey on the spine, as is usually found. The binding is tight and without any reading lean. There is a small stain to the top edge of the page block, and some finger marks to the fore-edge of the page block (please see scans). Internally, the book is also very good, with no inscriptions. The pages are clean and there are no creases or tears. Paper stock slightly tanned as usual. ***344 pages. 215mm x137mm. ***'"Trainspotting" marks the capital debut of a capital writer. A heavyweight champ of the vernacular, Irvine Welsh, using a bare-knuckled prose style, mounts ferocious attacks on the body state. A wickedly witty, yet irredeemably sad book, its author (what a mimetic gift the man has for gutter patois and junkie jargon!) takes us on a Hell tour of those psychic ghettos which are the stamping grounds for junkies, boozers, no-hopers and losers. This marvellous novel might feel like a bad day in Bedlam, but boy is it exhilarating. Yes, it truly is!' (Quote taken from the front cover). ***A fourth printing of the true first edition, published as a paperback original in the short-lived large format Secker & Warburg Paperbacks series. Early printings of the novel are very hard to come by now in any condition. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. Seller Inventory # 8743
