The Jewish cemeteries which have survived in the former Czech Socialist Republic form a cultural and architectural monument closely bound up with the history of the land. The cemeteries that remain are and were the care of the Jewish communities. Today, however, after the Nazi genocide, it is beyond the means of these groups to maintain them, and so it was decided to preserve their aspect in artistic form, for the sake of future generations. The author, Jan Herman, was an expert on the Jewish history of the CSR. 32 pages plus plates and a three-panel fold-out map; 163 b&w photos; 9.5 x 12.25 inches.
