Luke Waller lives with his minister father in Wynster Bridge, England. While walking in the local forest one evening, he stumbles into a heavily guarded area. Soon after this outing he meets and falls for the free-spirited, flame-haired Petra, a member of a group of players traveling throughout England presenting dramas based on current issues. Danger lurks at every turn as Luke and Petra try to unravel the secret of Furmiston Forest. Watson's contemporary storyline is compelling, but his style is disjointed. He moves from one character and incident to another with very little transition. Also, American teens are sure to have trouble with the British jargon--a growing problem as more and more books are imported from England. John Rowe Townsend and Lynn Reid Banks have transcended this language problem. James Watson has not. --Kenneth E. Kowen, Atascocita Middle School Library, Humble, TX
