PreSchool-- A boy on his way to market to sell eggs plus an array of farm animals arrive on the scene in cumulative fashion. In terse rhyming phrases and repetition of ideas, the whole group gets to the market, where it rains, and so they head home still carrying the eggs. Despite a couple of incongruous plot elements, the text does show promise; however, the illustrations go beyond the purely representational and into a realm of giddy sentimentality. Although the background scenery is nicely conceived and certain details are sure to amuse children, the characters seem forced and self-conscious.
