Kindergarten-Grade 2 ``No peas, no dessert. . . .'' Little Nellie is faced with a common childhood dilemma. Her response is an entertaining litany of all the things she'd rather eatfrom a fuzzy spider to an elephant, ``trunk and all.'' Each of these eating adventures is shown, complete with a fantasy jungle. The book ends with all of Nellie's peas gone and Nellie sitting smugly in her dining room chair. Of course, there is still a glass of milk waiting, and ``There are other things I'd rather drink. . . .'' The illustrations show echoes of Where the Wild Things Are in an imaginary jungle created in defense against adults and Jumanji in a jungle that incorporates elements of the non-fantasy room.
