PreSchool--Two unsuccessful lift-the-flap books. In the first, the father is a tradi tional kind of guy who leaves his son and wife at home in the suburbs while he goes to work in the city; the woman in Where's Mommy's Truck? is a con struction worker who drives a pick-up truck. Both books repeat the title ques tion throughout the story, asking read ers where the vehicles are as they travel. However, the flap gimmick simply does not work here. It is confusing to ``open'' a large truck or a railroad car to locate the vehicles. When Mom is at work, readers disconcertingly find her car un der a pile of sand. In addition, the wa tercolor illustrations are uninspired, with the renderings of people sketchy and cartoonish.
