SBN listed as 7091 0622 X; we have added a preliminary zero to get the ABE computer to accept this as a valid ISBN. (Number with preliminary zero does not actually appear in the book.) First hardcover printing of Leonard's first novel. (In America, it was a paperback original.) Library markings limited to a "Property of Chain Libraries Ltd." stamp to front pastedown. But that's largely because the FFE and half-title pages have been torn out and removed. Thus: "Fair." Otherwise, this copy -- which will close its own text block -- would grade "very good." NO edge stampings. Also no dust jacket, unfortunately. Spine slanted about 1/4-inch. Leonard's first crime caper (shifting genres after his early success writing Westerns) has been filmed twice, once in 1969 starring Ryan O'Neal and Leigh Taylor-Young, then again in 2004 starring Sara Foster, Morgan Freeman, and Charlie Sheen.
