From Library Journal:
This work, last revised in 1982, fills a major gap in biographical sources on North American humanities scholars. Covering more than 24,000 U.S. and Canadian scholars, this five-volume set offers useful biographical material in a wide range of fields, including history, literature, philosophy, religion, linguistics, and foreign languages, to name a few. Each entry includes place and year of birth, education, past and current positions, honors and awards, publications, and both mailing and e-mail addresses. Individuals involved in several academic fields are cross-referenced. This work provides much more information than either the minimal address listings in the National Faculty Directory or the annual membership directory issues of professional academic organizations. Depending on the individual and discipline, however, these latter directories may be more comprehensive in their particular areas. Durably bound and containing useful institutional, discipline, and geographical indexes, this set is an essential purchase for larger academic and major public libraries.ADonald Altschiller, Boston Univ.
