From Booklist:
Middle East Conflict Reference Library is a new title in UXL's ongoing series of history resources. Each volume--Almanac, Biographies, and Primary Sources--may be purchased separately.

The Almanac traces the roots of the conflict and developments to the present in 14 chapters; approximately 60 black-and-white illustrations, maps, and photographs; books and Web sites for further study; a time line; a glossary; research and activity ideas; country facts; and an index. Chapters cover topics such as competing visions of Zionism, Nationalism, Pan-Arabism, and Islam; the Arab-Israeli conflict and peace efforts from 1948 to the present; and terrorism. The 26 profiles in Biographies include the most influential and controversial figures from throughout the region dating from 1918 to the present. Seventeen entries focus on Arab personalities, while the remaining 9 essays focus on Israeli leaders.

Primary Sources offers 21 documents organized into 7 uniform thematic chapters. Examples include the Palestinian National Charter (1968), Communique No. 1 of the Intifada (1988), the Oslo Accords (1993), Israel's Revised Disengagement Plan (2004), and excerpts from personal accounts.

This set focuses on the Arab and Palestinian views of the Middle East conflict. Like other UXL titles, it is aimed at grades 7-12, although public libraries might find the layout and reading level appropriate for the general adult population. It will definitely spark discussion in world history classes. Esther Sinofsky
