About the Author:

Barbara Gastel, MD, is associate professor of journalism and medical humanities at Texas A&M University, where she coordinates the graduate program in science journalism. After receiving a bachelor’s degree from Yale and degrees in medicine and d public health from Johns Hopkins, Dr. Gastel first worked in medical journalism at Newsweek and the National Institutes of Health. Since then, she ahs taught at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Beijing Medical University, and the University of California, San Francisco. A fellow of the American Medical Writers Association and recipient of its Golden apple award, Dr. Gastel has written two previous books as well as numerous articles and reviews. This book evolved from her course in medical journalism as well as from her extensive experience as doctor and writer.
