Grade 5-8 Petersen's text is well organized and follows a logical progression while covering a wealth of basic information clearly and concisely. The author touches briefly on aspects of Danish religious and political history that led to emigration, then outlines the Danish experience in the United States. The latter half of the book is devoted to contemporary Danish-American institutions and prominent Americans of Danish descent. The excellent black-and-white illustrations and photographs are well integrated with the text and add a rich dimension to it. Although far less numerous than other groups of immigrants, hence generating less interest as objects of study, Danish Americans have played a significant role in communities in the midwest and California. Libraries serving these areas will need a copy of this excellent resource that provides information heretofore unavailable to this age group.
