The lecturelike tone is likely to put off most readers; unless they're using this title for a report, it's unlikely that they'll stick with it. Loaded with statistics and explanations for teenage pregnancy, the book presents the link between poverty and early pregnancy mainly as a warning. Young people deserve a more honest and objective view of the issues involved. For instance, recent research is showing more and more that poverty is a causal factor in teenage pregnancy and less that poverty is caused by early pregnancy itself. Illustrated with black-and-white and full-color photographs and laid out in the typical supplemental textbook style, the text is broken up with case studies and sections that provide additional statistics. For young adults interested in understanding the issues surrounding the subject, Teenage Pregnancy (Greenhaven, 1997) from the "Opposing Viewpoints" series is a much better choice.
