PreS--A shy frog asks ```Who's peeking at me?'' Next come an owl, a fox, a lion, and a hippo in this peek-a-boo pop-up book. Each animal is on a double-page spread, which, when opened flat, pops up with the animals' paws/feet in front of its face. The cover and each successive page has a hole which shows the eye of the next animal peeking through. The last eye turns out to be a spot on the wing of a butterfly, who asks ``Did I foo-foo-fool you?'' The guessing game element does not work because children cannot possibly tell what animal will be next from its eye alone. Also, while the peek-a-boo theme will appeal to young children, stuttering in fear can only be understood by older children. The poster-art illustrations create vivid animals, but the background scenes are uninspired and garish, and the pop-up construction will not stand up to general circulation demands. A marginal title.
