In apparently unrelated cases, Inspector O'Yee persuades a homeless youngster to relinquish an old gun, and Inspectors Auden and Spencer track a mangy Dalmatian thief. As in his "Manila Bay" series, Marshall successfully utilizes exotic, off-the-wall characters, a seemingly fragmented plot, and an unusual locale to great effect.
