Synopsis
This book explains important historical influences which caused a major decline in spiritual healing in Western medieval culture. It describes the continuation of healing after the fourth century by individual Christians whose lives and works were recorded in the writings of leading theologians such as Athanasius, Jerome, Augustine, and the Venerable Bede. These writings are unknown to most Christians. They recount the role of healing in spreading Christianity beyond the boundaries of the former Roman Empire until the time of the Protestant Reformation. They tell of the first recorded healings done by women. They also relate many healings of children. The final portion of the book explains the emergence of new historical conditions after the sixteenth favorable to the revival of spiritual healing in the Christian Church.
