In attempting to guide women to financial independence in every situation from first job/living at home to the economic consequences of new reproductive technologies, the authors provide what is at best an uneven overview of crucial topics. The chapter,"Going into Business for Yourself," ignores researching the potential market for the product or service and most other practical considerations, while "Borrowing with Skill and Savvy" receives detailed treatment. In "Single and Solvent," the consequences of dying without a will are ignored ("why shouldn't you be the one to decide how your property should be disposed of?" is the strongest argument made). The reader is referred to a later chapter for a detailed discussion of the subject, but this approach belies the claim that sections of the book can be read "that seem applicable to your present circumstances." Among the many better sources of information on emotional and financial independence are those written by Sylvia Porter.
