They speak of both the humanity and transcendent "immortality" of his people, who have gone through every imaginable suffering but have endured and prevailed. Gonzalez Palma is Gabriel Garcia Marquez's favorite photographer and "La Rosa", one of his most celebrated images, was used by the great writer for the DJ cover of his novel, "Of Love and Other Demons". Gonzalez Palma's photograph of a woman garlanded with a skull, toned and white flowers on her hair (duotone with oil varnish) is a striking image that, by itself, captures what he is trying to say about the paradox of Latin America: A continent of ineffable beauty and unspeakable pain.
