Knocked unconscious by the earthquake, Jeff awakes high in an unfamiliar mountain range and unaware that he is no longer on Earth. What would you do? Deep snow where there was hardly any, no signs of an earthquake, short of food, and no idea which way to go.
Just getting out of the mountains nearly kills him, and nothing makes sense on the hike out. Then one clear night two moons rise over the forest. Jeff will remember that night as one of the worst in his life.
This is the story of a twenty-first century man, an anthropologist, challenged to survive the elements and a radically different society. Aketti is a barbaric world where you have to back up words with action or pay the price. Jeff is very good with a saber, but that might not be enough.
People who are not what they seem, animals who are much more than that, war, discovery, and a state of love that Jeff had given up ever finding—all intermix in a fast-paced adventure that spans two worlds.

It is planned that the second volume in the series will be published late in 2003, although marketing forces may change that plan.
While each book stands alone as a complete story, the series is best viewed as a saga in five parts. The first three books and much of the fourth were written back-to-back over a period of several years in order to maintain plot and character integrity.
The series, taken as a whole, is a story of two worlds that are very different from one another. Two worlds whose destinies are tied together by Jeff Friedrick and his friend, Carl Jorgenson. Earth is technologically sophisticated, Aketti emerging from barbarism. But it is Earth that is on the verge of destruction and beginning a slide back to barbarism
