About the Author:
During the past thirty-eight years Steve Carr has been the senior pastor of Calvary Chapel in Arroyo Grande, California. Before coming to his present ministry, he spent an additional eight years teaching Bible studies with Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa, California under the ministry of Pastor Chuck Smith. As a pastor, Steve has had the experience and opportunity to use the sure Word of God and its application to help many people experience victorious Christian living. Throughout his ministry, Steve has counseled many couples who are in the midst of crisis and who are looking for solutions and answers to their problems. The counsel he gives does not come from the theories of untried ideas, but from many years of real-life counseling situations and from seeing what actually works in the lives of his counselees. In the years Steve has spent studying the Scriptures, combined with the experience of counseling, he is able to help couples come to an understanding of their problems and apply the biblical solutions that result in restoration and reconciliation. Steve writes the quarterly marriage publication, Covenant Keepers, which has an international circulation of over a thousand churches with translations in Spanish, Russian, Tamil (an Indian dialect), and the Romanian language. Each week he receives phone calls and letters of appreciation from couples around the country describing how they have given their lives to Christ or have seen their marriages reconciled. In addition, many churches use this publication for marriage ministries within their congregations. He believes that the Word of God has the complete and all-sufficient solutions to the problems Christian couples are facing today. Because of the many requests from couples for more comprehensive instruction in solving marital problems, he has authored the book, Married And How To Stay That Way, based solely on God's Word. Steve and his wife, Susan, have been married for over forty-four years and have raised two sons and one daughter.
Review:
In the sea of books on marriage, Steve Carr has broken the surface with a fresh idea, His premise...'Let's see what God has to say about Christian marriage!' Combining the precision of an exegete, the passion of a pastor and the wisdom of a counselor, Steve skillfully picks up the ancient truths of Scripture and delivers them to the doorstep of the contemporary American family. Married And How To Stay That Way is solid as a rock and lays a solid foundation upon which any couple could build a love that lasts a lifetime. --H. Dale Burke Senior Pastor, First Evangelical Free Church of Fullerton, California.
Steve's ministry style is Biblical, thorough, honest, practical, and searching. If you want your marriage to be what God wants it to be, and if you're willing to let Jesus Christ do His work in you through the power of His Word, then this book is for you. For my wife Karin and I, chapter two (The Purpose and Goal of Your Marriage) is worth the price of the book! I heartily recommend Married and How to Stay That Way. It's an important book... one that certainly needed to be written -- one that certainly needs to be read and applied by every Christian married couple. --Bill Holdridge Senior Pastor, Calvary Chapel Monterey Bay
In an age where staying married has been relegated to one of many options in the smorgasbord of life it's refreshing to have such a book as this. Steve Carr combines powerful insights of what makes relationships tick along with practical ways to heal fractured marriages. He has hit the nail squarely on the head as he defines the ultimate goal for couples - oneness and companionship. This book is needed for those contemplating marriage, as well as those who would simply like a refresher course to keep them on the right track. --Skip Heitzig Senior Pastor, Calvary Chapel of Albuquerque
