“Cow Chip Poetry- - -Lies Lingo & Lore” is an unusually entertaining collection of original poems by Ed Keenan. It reads like an adventure of a gringo cowboy along the Mexican border. Emphasizing the life and lore of the southwest cowboy, some fifty years ago, Ed Keenan captures the colorful details of this unique desert cowhand and rancher. He has, obviously, been over the trail of which he writes. His poems are laced with real cowboy humor, but are filled with reality and drama of the extremes that only the desert can provide. Poems like “Braggin Gringos,” “Rattlesnake Soup” and “Fever Tick!” will be long remembered and repeated. A nice array of pencil drawings throughout the book, enliven the mental images of his verses. In addition, the author has added a fascinating collection of cowboy lingo and expressions indigenous to his desert cowboy and rural folk. His glossary at the end is a valuable reference and adds to the personal interaction the reader finds himself involved in. These are truly wonderful tales— authentic, fresh and real— and will find their way into the saddlebags and bookshelves of lovers of this genre. Expect to hear more of Ed Keenan’s, Cow Chip Poetry—Lies, Lingo and Lore at your cowboy gatherings and local feed stores. The book sells for $12.95.
