This study describes in non-technical terms how cost-benefit analysis techniques can be applied to species and species loss, and how they provide a measure of the efficiency of conservation measures. David Pearce is Professor of Economics at University College London and main author of five previous Blueprint titles and numerous other books. He was for several years the chief environmental adviser to the UK Government.
