The strata cap the high bluffs which extend almost continuously from Eound Bay to the mouth of the river at Annapolis. Cucullœa gigantea, Ostrea compressirostra, Cytherea ovata, Turritella mortoni, Venericardia planicosta, Dosiniopsis lenticularis, and other forms occur. The Patuxent and its tributaries cut deeply into the Eocene deposits. The section at Upper Marlboro is particularly noteworthy on account of the highly fossiliferous character of the strata, and has been frequently referred to in geological literature.
