This little book is written in response to many requests from different friends, and I only hope it may be of some interest to those who care to read it. I send it out fully conscious that it expresses very inadequately the difficulties of early pioneer life in New Zealand.
As to my own experience I have given a true description of events as they actually occurred, and it is for this reason that I hope what I have written may be of some value to those who know New Zealand to-day under very different circumstances.
I wish it had been possible to add a picture of the Toi Farm as it looked when we first settled there, but photography was not so general in those days, and even my husband's portrait is far from what I should have wished.
