Ich will hier nicht unterlassen, die Bedeutung von de Saussures genialem Mémoire hervorzuheben, in dem er vor 20 Jahren unsere Erkenntnis wunderbar gefordert hat. Wenn ich auch die langen silbischen Liquidä und Nasale samt g*r, °ll, gm, mm aus dem Lautschatz der indogermanischen Grund sprache streichen musste, so bleibt doch seine wichtigste Er kenntnis, die der zweisilbigen Basen, unzweifelhaft zu Recht bestehen. Die kurzen silbischen Nasale und Liquiden, in der neueren Zeit mit einer gewissen Leidenschaft bekämpft, hoffe ich aber als richtig erschlossen nachgewiesen zu haben, wenn gleich in beschränkterem Umfang als bisher.
