It might be supposed that the blind portion of the bowel below the colostomy would be a serious trouble. I have, however, never seen any serious trouble from this cause. Owing to the much shorter period of convalescence, and to the fact that the patients are out of bed SO soon, the disability resulting from the operation is very much less than with the abdomino-perineal operation.
