The area is rich in wildlife and plants, much of which can only be found at lower levels, below the high summits and ridges. For the visitor who only has a few days it is impossible to explore the entire area. The routes described in this book, aimed at those wanting to discover the great outdoors in north Wales, are focused in and around the small peaceful hamlet of Nantgwynant, nestled at the foot of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon). They are not primarily aimed at the experienced mountain walker, but at the 'Sunday strollers' and 'Enthusiastic ramblers' who may choose to visit the area and who want to enjoy walks at lower levels than the high ridges and summits that rise high above the valleys. Most of the walks require only basic navigation skills to follow the directions along obvious low level paths, while a few require confident map reading skills to follow the route, and the walks are categorised accordingly.
