She completed a master's degree in business administration at the University of Southern California. She is a management consultant and also the author of Finding Peace: Letting Go and Liking It and Finding Time: Breathing Space for Women Who Do Too Much. Paula lives and writes in southern California with her husband and two daughters.

Our lives abound with technology meant to make our lives more convenient--car phones, cell phones, voice mail, email, pagers, faxes, Fed Ex, one-hour photos, fast food, drive-thrus, ATMs, and CRTs. Most people are looking for a shortcut--faster and quicker, now and not later.
Why?
There are only so many hours in a day and a lot that has to get done. Time pressure--it's the pinch to get everything off our list. The need to say ''yes'' to everyone that needs us. The desire to give of ourselves, often at our own expense. The urge to do as much as possible in the shortest time span, so we have the time to breathe--to relax, work out, read, pay bills, or simply do nothing.
We, as women shouldering the many responsibilities of home, family, and work, always have something to do: children, house projects, the office, parents, volunteering, church or temple, and neighborhood activities. We spend much of our time caring for others. Often, we go to bed feeling drained, overwhelmed, and sometimes depressed. We don't even cherish our sleep, waking up tired and anxious.
