From School Library Journal:
PreSchool-- Just because the baby eats the crumbs of bread instead of feeding them to the ducks, uncontrollable commotion breaks out. First the ducks, ``quacky quack-quack,'' are joined by the geese, ``honk! honk!'' Soon all the animals in town--donkeys, dogs, snakes, crocodiles, mice, and a lion--make their characteristic noises at maximum decibels. Even a brass band, playing as loudly as it can, is not heard over the animals' cacophony. All this changes when big brother teaches the baby to toss crumbs to the ducks. Then they joyously shout, ``Yum! Yum!'' This is a comical bit of fluff. Squiggly lined caricatures of animals strut and leap across the pages. The baby, his balloon-shaped head topped by a single hair, looks too innocent to be the cause of so much trouble. The story is told in rhyme with irregular meter. That doesn't seem to matter though, since everything about this book is a bit irregular. The slight story moves quickly. Lively pictures and verse induce eager page turning. In spite of the too-cute expressions, such as ``ducky birds,'' ``hungry birdies,'' and mice who say ``squeeky-squeeky,'' this book may become a favorite with the toddler story-time set. --Nancy Seiner, The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh
