From the Author:
Over the years, I have counseled many startups and seasoned business owners at various levels, and unfortunately, I see the same pattern. Start-ups are running scared not knowing where to go or how to get there, while waiting too long to seek assistance. It is the same for well-established businesses. These businesses are operating with poor balance sheets, negative cash flows and operating on the proverbial "robbing from Peter to pay Paul" mentality. Then, there are those who are solely operating out of "Greed". This is creating so many felons, you read correctly, as more and more business owners are stealing from their businesses, families and others to make things work, or chasing after opportunities they should not be chasing. This is unfortunate.
The purpose of this book is to expand the reader's mind on how to take your business through the journey of survival or growth in today's tight lending arena. Having access to capital is vital to everyone. You are affected by negative cash flow and financing issues whether you are a startup or a business doing $20 million or more annually. Realizing the issues affecting you is important, while creating and executing on solutions that can keep you from financial ruin, is crucial.
About the Author:
Karlene Sinclair-Robinson is an entrepreneur. However, this does not truly define her. She is a teacher at heart! When there are problems, she find solutions, and that is Karlene's mantra. She felt breaking into the entrepreneurial world would seem like a breeze. However, Karlene soon discovered that none of her previous work-life experiences could truly have prepared her for this journey. She started out over 10 years ago and failed at her first 2 start-ups.
With a background in business management, home healthcare and financing, Karlene spent several years working with small business owners and witnessed their inability to access capital through traditional banks. Nearly all of these struggling business owners were not aware of alternative financing solutions, nor did they understand it, even if they did. Karlene realized that there was a need for Non-Traditional Banking or Alternative Financing Solutions for businesses that could not qualify through institutional sources. The key is to find a solution to the entrepreneur's need, understand the given solution and proven benefits. She decided to fill the void by writing this book.
Karlene's decision to publish Spank the Bank; THE Guide to Alternative Business Financing stemmed from a variety of factors. The innumerable list exposed the following failures: the inability, inexperience, lack of knowledge and failure of business owners, lending institutions with the "Looking Back" mentality, and finally, the government who all played a role in the puzzle that made up our economic meltdown. We must fix it.
Karlene is the Managing Member of KsR Solutions LLC, a business consulting firm. In addition, she teaches entrepreneurship and business financing. Karlene is married with two children, a son diagnosed with autism and a daughter. She resides in Northern Virginia with her family.
