From the Author:

I wrote this book because I kept hearing, from both clients and friends, of the particular difficulties inherent in the aging and death of elders who had perpetrated abuse. I kept looking for the book to give to people, and finding none, wrote this one. It's full of the wisdom and experiences of the people who've shared their struggles and stories with me. Like my books and articles for mental health professionals, this book is grounded in my career-long study of complex childhood trauma and its effects on people's lives. I look forward to hearing feedback from my readers.

About the Author:

Laura S Brown, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist in Seattle who has spent the bulk of her career working with adult survivors of childhood trauma and maltreatment. Prior to writing Your Turn for Care, she published 10 books for professionals on a variety of topics, and was the featured therapist in two American Psychological Association videos on treatment of adult survivors of childhood trauma. In 1986 she received the Distinguished Publication Award of the Association for Women in Psychology for her ground-breaking work on the topic of trauma in women military veterans. Dr. Brown practices clinical and forensic psychology in Seattle WA, specializing in psychotherapy with adult survivors of complex childhood trauma. She is the founder and director of a low-fee training clinic serving adult survivors and other individuals without means to pay for psychotherapy.. In her spare time she is a student of the martial art of Aikido.
Dr. Brown has also been the recipient of numerous awards and honors from her colleagues. She received the American Psychological Association's award for Distinguished Professional Contributions to Public Service, the Sarah Haley Award for Clinical Excellence from the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies, and the Carolyn Wood Sherif Award from the Society for the Psychology of Women. She served as President of the Division of Trauma Psychology of the American Psychological Association.
