Updated & expanded September 2013. A cut-to-the-chase, mainly in bullet-point form, quick and handy Reference Guide to Comet ISON, C/2012 S1 (ISON) – hopefully the ‘great comet of 2013’ and maybe even the ‘comet of the century’. This Reference Guide is explicitly geared towards those that are always busy in today’s helter-skelter world. This ‘Pocket’ Guide sets out to provide the time-challenged with all they want to know about ISON (plus a tad more) in quick-fire mode – with pinpoint navigation, hard to miss section headers and highlighted keywords. This Guide is also aimed at those that want access to detailed information about ISON from a small-screen mobile device. So, the formatting of this book and the number of images included have been kept to a minimum to permit easy, conducive perusal on a smart phone or a small pad. Think of it, in a way, as an ISON APP for mobile devices. It is a Guide meant to be tucked away inside a mobile reader for repeated consultation as the comet starts to become naked eye visible around October 2013. For those that want additional information on C/2012 S1 (ISON), an expanded, 54,000 word, 189 Kindle page version of this Guide is available on Amazon as: ‘Comet ISON, C/2012 S1 (ISON) - The Great Comet of 2013’ [ASIN: B00CB1OEZI]. As the Table of Contents (accessible via ‘Look Inside’) will attest, this quick Reference Guide deals with every facet of ISON that would be of interest to an ‘amateur’ whether it be: origin, dimensions, discovery, discovery timeline, dates, name, classification, distances, brightness, characteristics, other ‘greats’ etc. Per the author’s ‘trademark’ there are considerable comparisons with other comets for context and cometary trivia for added spice. The author intends to regularly revise the Kindle version, with free updates, to keep this Guide as up to date as possible as ISON hurtles towards the Sun. UPDATED: July 20, 2013. Edition TWO.1.

About the Author:
Anura Gurugé was born in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) in 1953. He, however, came of age in Britain, after year long stays in Buffalo (U.S) and Paris. Though he has lived in the U.S., the second time around since 1985, mainly in New Hampshire, he is very much a ‘Brit’ at heart, cricket an abiding passion. He started computer programming in 1969, and went to work for IBM when he was 20. Over the years he also worked for the likes of ITT, Wang and BBN, and was, for two decades, a leading authority on IBM networking. Writing, however, has been a consuming pastime since the early 1980s. His first book was published in 1984. Four further books on technology as well as over 350 technical publications followed. Around 2006, with IBM networking an oxymoron, he turned his attention to papal history, art and astronomy. This is his 17th sole-author book. He has a Master’s in computer science, three daughters, one son and two Goldens. www.guruge.com.
