This is Edward Thomas's second collection of poetry published after his death in the Great War. Thomas was described by British Poet Laureate Ted Hughes as "the father of us all." Thomas's poems are noted for their attention to the English countryside and a deep love of rural England. He was killed in action soon after he arrived in France at Arras on Easter Monday, 9 April 1917.

Edward Thomas has lived and worked in Sudan and South Sudan for over eight years. He worked as a teacher, researcher, and human rights worker for Sudanese and international organizations. Over the past five years, he has written numerous books, reports and articles about South Sudan and its neighbors.
