The Novel Researcher: What You Need to Know Before Doing Research is a succinct and accessible textbook that helps students who are new to research understand the research process and the practices that are critical to successfully conducting research.
The book begins with chapters that introduce the concepts of research, science, the search for truth, and the research cycle. In subsequent chapters, students learn how to frame hypotheses, design experiments, and recognize and analyze various types of scientific literature. The text also addresses ethical behavior in a research setting, how to successfully document research, how to design presentations that effectively communicate research findings, and how to work successfully in a group setting.
